SISTERSITE: for more Mark updates you can visit Mark-Feehily.Net. Stars to come out for Christy’s charity evening KEN SWEENEY, ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR SOME of the biggest names in Irish music will perform at a special benefit night for Christy Dignam. Westlife’s Mark Feehily, making his first solo performance, Gavin Friday, Danny O’Reilly from The Coronas, Horslips, Shane McGowan and Mary Black are among those performing at A Night For Christy, which takes place in the Olympia Theatre on June 21. The artists will be supported by Dignam’s Aslan bandmates and will perform the Dublin band’s signature tunes. However, the biggest cheer of the night will come for the Aslan frontman himself, who has vowed, if well enough, to take to the stage. Christy is currently undergoing treatment for two forms of blood cancer. “We’re going to be the backing band on the night for everyone playing and they had better be in tune,” joked guitarist Billy McGuinness. Aslan said they have been snowed under with acts wanting to perform at the gig, which is to cover Dignam’s on-going medical expenses, and that some even bigger names may perform on the night without prior warning. Dignam (52) was released from Beaumont Hospital last Sunday. Credit/Source: herald.ie |

by Tina Hart Former Westlife member Shane Filan has signed to London Records as a solo artist. He’s started recording his debut solo album in Nashville as well as the UK. It will be released towards the end of this year. Shane says ”I am so excited to be joining London Records, Universal Music and being back in the studio in London and Nashville recording new songs has been amazing. One of the things that pleases me the most about this record is that I’ve been given the opportunity to write my own songs. I’m so excited for people to hear them!” Louis Walsh, Filan’s manager said: “This is a fantastic new deal for Shane, we are thrilled to be part of the team at London Records.” London Records President Nick Raphael commented: “We are over the moon to have Shane on our roster. I already feel that the strength of the song writing shows Shane at his most creative.” As part of Westlife, Filan sold over 50 million records worldwide and have accumulated 14 No.1 singles, the third highest in UK history – a feat that won them the accolade of the UK’s top-selling album group of the 21st century in 2010 They also won The Record of the Year (the only music award based on public votes in the UK) a record-breaking four times and in 2012, the Official Charts Company listed Westlife 34th amongst the biggest-selling singles artists in British music history. Filan will release his new album on London Records later in 2013. Credit/Source: musicweek.com |

WESTLIFE singer Nicky Byrne has been announced as the 2013 St Patrick’s Day parade Grand Marshall. The father-of-two follows in the footsteps of John Giles, Katie Taylor and Ronnie Drew to hold the festival title. Speaking at the announcement, 33-year-old Byrne said he was “very proud” to take on the position. “I’ve always tried my best to fly our flag around the world in all the amazing Places I’ve been to with Westlife, so to be asked to play such a poignant role on our national holiday is special.” It will be a day of “nerves and excitement” as Byrne steps out of his comfort zone – his first festival at home in years. The singer, who has expressed an interest in a career in TV presenting, will also host the highlights programme, which will be televised on March 18. The St Patrick’s Day parade this year is billed as the People’s Parade, as part of The Gathering festival. Over 8000 people from around the world have been invited to march and participate in the parade. Byrne recently appeared on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing on the BBC. The former Westlife star made it into Heat magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive top 20, leaping from number 71 to number 15 following his appearance on the show. According to Heat: “When a man can make a green Jim Carrey face look sexy as he did on Strictly, you know he’s pretty special.” Credit/Source: independent.ie / thesun.ie |
