Westlife singer Kian Egan has told of how he’s enjoying living a “normal life” since the band retired. ‘The Voice’ coach has embarked on a presenting career since the popular music group hung up their microphones last summer. Egan splits his time between Ireland and the UK with wife Jodi Albert and their son, Koa, who celebrated his first birthday on December 20. The father of one told the Irish Independent that he’s adapting well without the band and can’t wait to embrace more of life’s simple pleasures, like making a cup of tea and putting his son to bed at night. “Life is at a nice pace now. I’m not travelling as much and I’m getting to spend more time with Koa and Jodi, which is amazing,” he said. “But I’m still working hard. It’s a shift in life, but feels good. I’m looking forward to settling down that little bit more again and having a normal life because since I was 17, before Westlife, I haven’t had that. “I want to wake up at home every day and spend time with my family.” After a successful stint on ‘The Xtra Factor’ and ITV’s ‘This Morning’, Egan has been taking on more work in TV. In what may be his biggest project yet, the 33-year-old was in the US with an ITV crew in December to film a programme which explores American music of the south. He also admitted that he and wife Jodi would love to have more children in the future. “Fatherhood is amazing. It surpasses anything else you’ve ever done,” he said. “We definitely do want more kids down the line, as we wouldn’t want Koa to be an only child — but not yet.” Credit/Source: belfasttelegraph.co.uk |

Westlife’s Kian Egan has revealed he would love to host his own cookery TV show. The singer – who lives with his former Hollyoaks star wife Jodi Albert and one-year-old son Koa – has been doing a lot of TV presenting since Westlife split and would love to combine his new career with his love of cooking. Kian revealed: “I’ve always been the chef in our house, it’s something I really enjoy doing. I love the satisfaction of cooking a nice meal for people. “I’ve talked about a food show to quite a few people – any kind of food show that comes up I’d love to be a part of it. “I’m experimental, I get out my cook books and learn bits and pieces here and there, and then I won’t look at a cook book for six months and I’ll be putting the ingredients that I’ve learned about together. My weekly shop starts to expand and get a bit more exotic, rather than just the bog standard things I used to cook a few years ago.” Credit/Source: belfasttelegraph.co.uk |

Byline: EMMA MCMENAMY irishsundaymirror@mgn.ie FORMER Westlife singer Kian Egan has revealed he wants to play James Bond on the big screen. The boyband star, who is one of the mentors on The Voice, said he used to take acting classes as a child and would love to sink his teeth into an interesting movie role. The 32-year-old revealed he has already met with well-known directors but his dream role would be to play the secret agent. The dad-of-one said: “I did loads of acting as a kid. I have gone for meetings and met loads of directors and it’s just a matter of going for a few auditions and seeing if the shoe fits. “My dream role would be something action-packed. Maybe James Bond. I could be the second Irish actor to play him. “There was talk about me going out to LA for a pilot session in January but I can’t do it now as I already have plans that can’t be broken. “But look, who knows what will happen, I will chance my arm at anything.” And Kian said he has no ambition at the moment to launch a solo career. He added: “I’m not running after a solo career. I’m working on bits and pieces but more for myself. I don’t really feel like I want to make a record and put out an album yet. “I just want to let things flow and see how they go. “I want to muck around and do it more for myself. If it’s good and sounds great then so be it. Everything I’m involved in at the moment seems to be more television orientated. I seem to be doing loads of TV work in the UK. There just seems to be things coming my way all the time. “I’m going out next week to do 10 days on the music scene in southern America. The show, Rhythm and Chews, will see me going around the music scene there and meeting the musicians involved. “I love doing shows like that, at the end of the day I’m just doing things that I love. It’s great.” But Kian said he has ruled out ever doing a fly-on-the-wall reality show – although if it involved surfing or something he loved he might consider it. Kian added: “I would have to do a reality show that was based on something I was really interested in. I couldn’t just have a camera on us in our house. “The typical reality show of a camera coming into our house and watching me cook dinner and argue with my wife wouldn’t be an option, I wouldn’t go there, hell no.” And the Flying Without Wings singer said himself and wife Jodi have no plans to have any more children just yet. He admitted his son Koa, who is one-year-old in a few weeks, is enough of a handful at the moment. Kian said: “We will slow it down a bit. Jodi wants to get back to work first. She wants to do acting and singing.” Credit/Source: Irish Sunday Mirror – Published on 2.December.2012 |

Westlife’s Kian Egan says Christopher Maloney doesn’t deserve to still be in The X Factor. The singer-turned-TV presenter, who has appeared on The Xtra Factor panel and is a coach on The Voice Of Ireland, has stood up for the 34-year-old contestant in the past, but admits his talent doesn’t match that of Ella Henderson, who was booted off last week. Kian said: “I don’t think Christopher should still be there, over the likes of Ella. I’ve stood up for Christopher an awful lot, because I do think he’s been getting a very, very hard time. “But the reality is, I don’t think we’ll hear of Christopher in another year’s time, where as I do think we’ll be watching Rylan on a regular basis. “I think Rylan deserves to still be there, obviously he’s not the best singer on there, but he’s different, he’s new and he’s entertaining.” Kian insisted The Voice and The X Factor are very different, but admitted The Voice needs to produce a star to properly establish itself. He said: “Having been part of both now, I think they’re actually two very different types of show. “I think The Voice is extremely focused on a vocal performance. I think The X Factor is a lot more than that – it is about an entertainer. Even though most of the people on The X Factor are amazing voices, it gives people with big personalities like Rylan an opportunity to get noticed. “Where as The Voice, you don’t get to meet characters, it’s about people who can stand up and sing a song. “The X Factor is such an amazing platform, and so far we haven’t seen The Voice produce a successful singing artist yet. So I think that’s extremely necessary for The Voice.” Credit/Source: whatsontv.co.uk |

Kian Egan has said he is not worried about being the Mr Nasty of The Voice of Ireland as long as he is being honest. The former Westlife singer is a coach on the Irish version of the singing talent show and last series drew some criticism for being too critical of contestants, so he turned to former Westlife manager and X Factor judge Louis Walsh for advice. But Kian said: “I think it’s unfair to tell people that they’re amazing, if it wasn’t. At one or two points I became Mr Nasty on the show last year and I said to Louis, ‘I don’t know what to do about this.’ “And Louis said ‘You’re doing something right, because people are talking about you, whether it’s because you’re Mr Nasty or Mr Nice, it doesn’t matter, because you’re in there doing what you’re supposed to be doing, and that’s critiquing these people’.” Kian said he could be nice to contestants just to be popular. He said: “I always had the opinion I was going to go on there and be extremely honest and tell people exactly what I thought, and not worry about my reputation as an individual. “I think on the show we had an awful lot of that, people not being 100 per cent honest because they were afraid of what the public might think of them and I wanted to be the one to say what people were thinking, rather than just sit there and tell everybody that they were great.” Kian has been a co-hosting the new series of Surprise, Surprise with Holly Willoughby. He said: “Having that type of a show back on the telly is a really positive thing and it’s great to be a part of that.” The last episode of Surprise, Surprise airs on ITV at 7pm on Saturday November 24 2012. By NADIA BROOKS WESTLIFE star Kian Egan wants to be an X Factor judge – but not at Louis Walsh’s expense. Following the demise of the Irish boyband, who were managed by Louis, Kian has carved out a career as a telly presenter and is currently on ITV1’s Surprise Surprise with Holly Willoughby. But the singer — who has previously hosted The Xtra Factor on ITV2 — says he’d really love to sit on The X Factor panel. And with the show’s ratings under pressure — it pulled in an average of 8.4million viewers on Saturday compared with 12.3million at the same time last year — a shake-up could be on the cards for the next series. Kian said: “Being on The X Factor judging panel would be an amazing gig and something I would thoroughly enjoy. “I would hate to replace Louis Walsh. That would never be my intention.” He continued: “It’s an amazing TV show and a great one to be a part of. “I certainly feel that since The X Factor started I’ve been around it and in it an awful lot. “I did the judges homes with Louis, presented The Xtra Factor a few times and this will be the first series of the main X Factor show that Westlife don’t perform on. “We really have had an amazing time on The X Factor over the years so it would be great for that to continue.” Kian and his wife — former Hollyoaks star Jodi Albert — avidly watch the show and want James Arthur to win. “James is definitely outstanding,” Kian said. “I think he’s probably one of the most unique artists that’s been on so far and I really think he deserves to win the show. “He’s a young, cool, contemporary artist — probably the most contemporary that they have had for a long time, so it’d be good to see him win it. “There are some other good people on there. I think Ella Henderson started off very strong and Rylan’s brilliant. “He’s a lovely guy. I did a lot of work with him on the ITV2 show. “I don’t think there’s ever been anybody like him on this show, so he deserves to be there — even if he isn’t one of the best singers in the world.” Credit/Source: thesun.co.uk |
