The Westlife star had tried to avoid getting the tanned look

Strictly Come Dancing chiefs forced former Westlife star Nicky Byrne to get a spray tan because he “was too pasty”.

The singer, who performed the rumba last night, tried to avoid the fake bake but BBC bosses intervened.

Nicky, 34, said: “I’d never had a spray tan. On week one I could hear the fake tan lady coming down the corridor saying ‘next is Nicky’, so I ran out the door into my car.

“But then the following week the make-up artist said ‘Nicky you’ve got to get a spray tan’ and I was like ‘No, I’m fine thanks’.

“But she said ‘No, no – it’s come from upstairs, you’re looking too pasty and white. You have to get one’.”

The heart-throb also said his former manager, X Factor judge Louis Walsh, has been less than supportive – backing one of his rivals instead.

Nicky said: “He said to me, ‘Do you think you’ll win?’ I said, ‘I’ll give it a good try.’

“He replied ‘No you won’t, Louis Smith will win’.”

But Walsh has other ideas for putting the star’s new ballroom skills to good use.

Irish Nicky revealed: “Louis told me ‘The positives are you’ll be able to dance when we do a Westlife reunion’.”

THE Westlife singer insists he tried to get pal Lennon to put his name forward for the dance show but was told there would be “no chance” of it happening.

STRCITLY Come Dancing star Nicky Byrne has revealed how he tried to get Neil Lennon on to the show next year.

The former Westlife singer is pals with the Hoops boss and presented reality show Football’s Next Star, which gave young Irish footballers the chance to win a place at Celtic’s Youth Academy.

Nicky, 34, who danced the rhumba to Aerosmith’s I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing last night with Venezuelan beauty Karen Hauer, told how he had been delighted by the support from the Glasgow club and their youth coaching staff.

He said: “I was on a chat show with Neil in Ireland and I was trying to get him to do Strictly next year. He just had a little laugh and said, ‘Absolutely no chance.’

“I’ve had massive support from Celtic and the backroom staff. Everybody’s been texting me, including Chris McCart, Tommy McIntyre and Greg Robertson, who looks after the younger lads.

“I’ve heard the Celtic website has been putting my number up to vote. That’s brilliant.”

Nicky also revealed how Westlife manager and X Factor judge Louis Walsh put the rivalry between their two shows to one side to wish him luck – but told him Olympic gymnast Louis Smith would win.

Nicky said: “I met him at a party three weeks ago. He said to me, ‘Do you think you’ll win it?’ I said I’d give it a good shot and he said, ‘Louis Smith will win’.

“He’s great fun and he said the positives are I’ll be able to dance when we do a reunion.

“He said he knows genuinely how hard you have to work on Strictly and wished me luck.”

Nicky, who trains in Ireland to be close to his wife Georgina and twin sons Rocco and Jay, five, was delighted yesterday when his boys attended a dress rehearsal for the first time.

Former Westlife star Shane Filan has turned down an offer to appear on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

The 33-year-old will not be jetting out to the jungle to take part in the UTV show.

According to the Irish Daily Star, the singer turned down the chance to appear on the show in order to concentrate on his musical career.

His manager, Louis Walsh said: “Reality TV is not his thing.

“He doesn’t want to be a celebrity, he wants to be a recording artist!

“He’s concentrating on putting a solo album together and is looking for songs and talking to producers.

“He doesn’t have time to be eating insects in the jungle.

Louis also denied that Jedward also turned down an I’m A Celebrity offer.

He said: “No, I don’t know where those reports came from.

“It’s definitely not true. They have received offers from other reality shows but they’re not doing them either. “

Rumoured contestants in this year’s I’m a Celebrity show include darts champion Eric Bristow, Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan and singer Grace Jones.

WESTLIFE superstar Mark Feehily last night became the latest celebrity to back our ‘Delete Cyber Bullies’ campaign.

Singer Mark has admitted he was a victim of vicious bullying in the past — and he vowed to do what he could to help kids who are tormented today.

Earlier this year, Mark took part in an ISPCC campaign, and posed for harrowing snaps depicting his face badly bruised.

He told the Irish Sun: “It greatly upsets me to think that there are children out there who feel the only option left open to them is to take their own life.”

And he urged his fans to get behind our campaign demanding that Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald enforces laws to tackle the problem.

He added: “Things need to change and we won’t stop until they do, but in the meantime I urge parents, teachers, schools, sports coaches, the media and anyone with the ear of our youth to promote the anti bullying message.

“And the Childline number is 1800 666 666 where children can talk to trained counsellors confidentially.”

NATIONAL suicide prevention organisation Console yesterday urged anyone affected by cyber bullying to seek help from the organisation immediately.

Westlife’s Kian Egan has insisted that he will not be releasing any solo material, because he would feel under too much pressure.

The Irish boyband split up this summer after 14 years together in which they notched up 14 number one singles and a string of hit albums and Egan doesn’t think he could live up to that on his own.

He revealed at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Award: “I think the idea of going solo is a huge amount of pressure to get it all right, and coming out of a band that’s been so successful, I think it’s going to be a huge pressure for any of us to try and release solo music and make it as big and successful.”

FORMER Westlife star Mark Feehily has revealed how he is still haunted by the bullying he suffered at school over his weight.

But the 32-year-old has said that his later global success with Westlife is proof a bad childhood experience can be overcome.

Interviewed by clinical psychologist and Irish Independent columnist David Coleman for a new three-part RTE series ‘Bullyproof’, Feehily recounts the long-term damage done by his tormenters.

“Some of the more intense moments are still with me, very much, in terms of the physical attacks and stuff like that.

“There were times at school when I got attacked from behind or whatever and there’s times when I’d be walking on the street to this day and I’ll have flashbacks and have little moments of panic attacks,” said Feehily.

The ex-boyband star believes that his lack of self-confidence as a teenager didn’t help.

“If loads of people pick out things about you, whether it’s being chubby or whatever, your own image of yourself becomes ‘oh I’m just the fat guy in the class’ and nobody wants to be the fat guy in the class, let’s face it. It just kind of eats away at you,” said Feehily, who has been working on his own musical projects as a songwriter and producer.

But pop stars can find themselves bullied too as the singer, who revealed he was gay in 2005, went on to suffer years of abuse on Twitter.

He said: “I’m not talking about people saying your music is crap.

“I’m talking about proper abuse. I can’t go into what they said but some of the things that have been said to me on Twitter, if someone walked up to me on the street and said them to me… they would be in jail.”

In the ‘Bullyproof’ series, host Mr Coleman offers therapeutic support to a number of teens and pre-teens, and their families, who have been affected by bullying — either as a target or as a bully.

As part of the series, Mr Coleman met youngsters who have suffered at the hands of bullies and begins the process of helping them rebuild their shattered self-esteem.

He said one of the aims of the series is to enable people understand that bullying does not have to be tolerated in silence.

Mr Coleman said: “If you ignore bullying it doesn’t go away.”

He points out that bullying is not a form of “toughening up” that children need to pass through as some form of character development, but rather it is an indication that adults are not in charge.
